2023 Crown Finalists Announced

CSPA to announce Crown Award Finalists for 2023 on Dec. 13, 14 and 15

Social media announcements over three days will highlight magazines, news media and yearbooks from secondary schools and colleges/universities

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association  (CSPA) will announce its Crown Award Finalists for 2023 on December 13th, 14th and 15th.

The announcements will be made via CSPA's official Twitter (@cspa) and Facebook accounts, starting at 2pm EST each day. A complete listing will be added to the CSPA Web site, to be updated as groups of finalists are announced over the three days.

Crown Finalists are not nominees; each will receive either a Gold or Silver Crown Award in March 2023.

CSPA will reveal this year’s Gold and Silver Crown Award recipients during two in-person events in March 2023:

Collegiate Crowns are scheduled to be presented during the annual College Media Convention, taking place from March 8-11 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. (More details to follow.)

Scholastic Crowns will be presented during an Awards Convocation on Friday, March 17. The ceremony will be the closing session of CSPA's 99th Spring Convention, taking place from March 15-17, 2023 on the campus of Columbia University in New York City.

Crown Finalist announcements on social media and the CSPA Web site will appear in the following order:

Magazine Finalists (print, hybrid and digital) will be announced on Tuesday, December 13th;

News Finalists (print, hybrid and digital) will be announced on Wednesday, December 14th; and

Yearbook Finalists (print and hybrid) will be announced on Thursday, December 15th.

The Crown Awards honor top student publications chosen from CSPA’s members. Crowns are selected for overall excellence in a head-to-head comparison. Student publishing in news, magazine, yearbook or digital (online) formats are all eligible. During Crown consideration, publications are judged on their excellence as shown by their design, photography, concept, coverage and writing.

Since 2020, Crown judging panels have worked via Zoom sessions to comply with University-imposed COVID prevention regulations.

While the process of virtual judging required considerable ingenuity,  the Crown judges were able to review entries and make their selections while connecting from all across the country.

We look forward to presenting Gold and Silver Crowns in person in March 2023!

Thank you for your continued
support of CSPA!

*The Crown Awards are distinct from other awards given by the CSPA and they have no relation to its Medalist Critiques or to its Gold Circle Awards for individual excellence. Entry in these other programs is separate from the Crown Awards although CSPA membership provides the opportunity to enter several of them.
